Abstract

Cosmetic market is growing these days and Ayurvedic Natural products are gaining importance. Very few Natural products are available as a medication for dryness and other related complaints of lips. Hence considering this need, this project was planed. Primary objective was Determination of dryness ,cracks and pigmentation of lips. Secondary objective was evaluating efficacy of yashtyadi lip balm in maintaining healthy lips. 30 female individuals with Vataja Oshthprakop were selected visiting Arogyashala Rugnalaya, Nasik, and observed before and after treatment. Lip balm was prepared in our Rasashastra department with following contents 1.Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra), 2.Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia) 3.Coconut oil,4. Bees wax, 5.Rose essence.Yashti & Manjishta were used to make siddh tail( oil) & beeswax was added. Lip balm was prepared, essence added. Individuals were given yashtyadi lip balm for 15days and was applied twice daily, follow up taken after 7 days. Following parameters were considered to assess the condition of lips.1.Dryness 2. Cracks 3.Bleeding 4.Itching 5.Pigmentation .And were observed on basis of gradations: no-0, mild-1, moderate-2 and sever-3.Chi-square test was applied and observed difference was statistically highly significant. Yashtyadi lip balm was found to be effective in reducing dryness, cracks, bleeding through lips and pigmentation and was not found significant in itching of lips.
