Diseases that impact on our lifestyle are heart disease, stroke, obesity and type II diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to defect in insulin secretion, action, or both. Liver plays an important role in the glucose homeostasis through glycolysis, glycogenesis, and gluconeogenesis.</p> <p><em>Semicarpus anacardium</em><em> (‘</em>Bhallatak’) has been used in various traditional system of medicines for various ailments since ancient times. Its nut contains a variety of biologically active compounds such as bioflavonoid, phenolic compounds, bhilawanols, minerals, vitamins and amino acids, which show various medicinal properties. The fruit and nut extract shows various activities like hypoglycemic anti-artherogenic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-reproductive, CNS stimulant, anti-carcinogenic and hair growth promoter. Research study revealed, the ethanolic extract of SA (100 mg/kg) reduced the blood glucose of normal rats.
