‘Skin’ (twacha) is the largest organ of the body which protects body in various ways. The aggravation of various Dhatus and Doshas results in skin diseases. “Herpes Zoster†also known as “Shingles†is a recurrent, painful vesicular eruption caused by reactivation of “Dormant Varicella Zoster Virus’’. This clinical entity can be correlated with “Visarpa†in Ayurveda. It manifests as Anunnat shopha, Daha, Jwara, Vedana. ‘A case of 55 years old female patient approached the Rognidan OPD with the chief complaints of Rakta-Shyav Varni Pidka (Reddish-Blackish Blisters) on the left side of abdominal region along with Atyadhik Vedana (Severe Pain), Atyadhik Daha (Burning sensation), Trushna (Thirst) and Jwara (Fever). She was alright 8 days back and suddenly noticed pain in left side of abdomen and small boil on it. The symptoms had increased with cluster of similar eruptions with fever. She was previously diagnosed as a Herpes Zoster and treated with modern medicines but she did not get relief so, came to Ayurveda Institute for complete treatment. According to signs and symptoms it is diagnosed as “Agneya Visarpaâ€. Patient was advised Chandrakala Rasa, Laghusutashekhar Rasa, Guduchi Ghana Vati and Syrup Paripathadi kadha as orally. Gairika Churna with Goghrita for local application. Further the patient was advised mild Swaduvirechana as “Avipattikar Churnaâ€. Patient’s condition improved within a week and got satisfactory relief within 14 days. Ayurveda treatment is cost effective and offers early recovery as well. No side effects of treatment were observed in this case.
