Acorus calamus which also Known as Vacha in Ayurveda belongs to family Araceae and their roots and rhizomes have been used in Indian system of traditional medicine for hundreds of years. It is use medicinally for a wide multiplicity of ailments, and its aroma makes calamus essential oil esteemed in the perfume industry. Acorus calamus rhizome constituents, particularly α and β asarone, possess a wide range of pharmacological activities such as sedative, CNS depressant, behavior modifying, anticonvulsant, acetyl cholinesterase inhibitory & memory enhancing.
